The presentation of information
on the World Wide web
Arts Organization
For any arts organization like Chorus Niagara (in which I sing baritone), the desire to
share the the fruits of its labour with as wide an audience as possible makes the presence
of a web site essential.
Charitable Organization
A broadly based organization like Marriage Encounter can benefit from a web site that is
current and accessible to its supporters and which allows it to inexpensively expand its
reach into new territories
Church Community
For church communities that support local outreach, and which are themselves part of
(inter)national communities of churches, a web site can reach both ways, even while
re-iterating mundane matters like nursery schedules.
Product Advertisement
The cost of marketing locally developed products (inter)nationally has always been a
large hurdle on the way to success. The internet has lowered the bar and made access to
these markets simpler and cheaper.
Business Presence
There are many ventures in which pride of ownership and professional accomplishments
demand a web presence which is just as attractive and professional as the business'
storefront or office interior.
Documentation
There are a staggering number of documents deep in the memory of a sea of PCs, many of
which would be worth making more available if only it could be done simply, without too
much further investment of time.
Educational/Interactive Resource
The CD-ROM explosion has proven the value of teaching and presenting with pizzaz, and as
internet connections speed up, the World-Wide-Web will realize this potential in its own
unique way.
SHOWCASE SHOWCASE
H.JAMES CO. SHOWCASE SHOWCASE
The gathering of information
for personal and corporate use
The need for clarity of thought and language is as great as ever in this complex world
of bits and bytes. H.James Company took this software developer's help file support to
another level.
Training Plan Database
The ability to organize, maintain and access information is crucial to a company as
large as the John Deere Welland Works. This Training Plan Management system was developed
by H.James Company in Access 97.
Business Accounting
Most business accounting is well handled by off-the-shelf programs, but for complete
flexibility (and for something to do) I chose Access 97 for my own accounting needs.

The tools and techniques
for handling and presenting information
Access Log (Perl CGI)
For immediate gratification this script (developed by H.James Co.) tracks visitors,
their origin and relative time zone) and sends a daily log by e-mail to interested
recipients. An Access 97 module has been designed to take this imported web log and
generate a web page report like this one.
Guestbook (Perl CGI)
The H.James Co guestbook script creates an appropriate entry form on the fly, updates
the guestbook page and sends a notice of the entry to some recipient.
Folder tree (Javascript)
For lists and links that need to be presented hierarchically, this public domain folder
tree script, supplied with information by an H.James Co. Access 97 module, makes this
familiar interface available to internets and intranets alike.
