Help Files: Authoring |
For those who lack the time or prefer the objectivity, H.James Company can create a Help file from scratch. This, of course, will require extra time to acquire an understanding of the application through experimentation and feedback from the developer, but offers, in return, a fresh and focused response to the way users will learn and use the application (and optional Beta testing for applications still under development). Help files often serve both as tutorial and reference and should be effective both ways. As a tutorial, the Help file should explain details in context and in a sequence that builds naturally. In addition to the already established goals for editing Help files, this pedagogical factor is crucial, especially in the shareware market where trial users will be tempted to try something else if they don't get understanding and results fairly quickly. H.James Company is committed to exploring and incorporating a natural learning facility in Help files. |
